What is Icare du Cinéma?
In 1983, ten years after the inception of the COUPE ICARE, the 1st International Air Film Festival was born.
Today, ICARE DU CINEMA welcomes nearly 5,000 spectators and has become a true benchmark for both image professionals and free flight enthusiasts.
From short to feature films, all about the air...
The festival brings together cinematographic productions (short, medium, and feature-length films) centered around the themes of air, wind, flight, and all aerial sports, paragliding, hang gliding, skydiving, hot air ballooning, human-powered flight, gliding, bungee jumping, base jumping, kite flying, boomerangs, slacklining, and more. Motorized aerial sports are limited to paramotoring, microlights (ULM), model aircraft, aerobatics, and aviation feats.
Films about bird flight are also welcome.
An official competition
Every year, the International Air Film Festival receives around a hundred productions from all over the world.
Following a screening by the selection committee, the best films are submitted to the official festival jury, which is composed of sports and media professionals.
Two other juries also present an award:: the Press Jury and the Mômes (Kids) Jury.

Icare d’Or Banque Populaire Auvergne Rhône Alpes : « Team Solares » by Jeisson Zarate
Their names are Estela, Otoniel and Angel; they are three of the eight children in the Solares family and live in Solola, Guatemala. Their dream is to become paragliding pilots…
In 2025, audiences at the Icare Film Festival discovered them in the film ‘Team Solares’, which won the Icare d’Or and with it a Nova harness and a cash prize.
The festival jury, on stage, had expressed a wish that part of the prize be given to the family to help the children realise their dream, and we had committed to doing so.
So, the whole team rallied round, supported by the Ailes pour eux Association, which they had discovered thanks to a film also screened at the Festival.
After a long series of customs complications, the children were finally able to receive the Nova harness, and the ‘Ailes pour eux’ Association has put together a full set of equipment which should reach them via Mateo, their instructor in Guatemala, who will be attending the Coupe Icare.
A huge thank you, therefore, to the film’s directors, to Philippe from ‘Ailes pour eux’, to Jérôme from Nova, and to Mateo.
It’s worth noting that by the end of filming, Otoniel (known as Oto) had completed his 100th flight, Estela had been doing short flights and was hoping to make her first long flight, whilst Angel was trying to put on weight so he could use his brother’s paraglider.
Jury for the 43rd Icares du Cinéma: Luisa Montrosset, Freddy Montigny, Dino Raffault, Julie Collard, Jean-Baptiste Loiselet.
