Jean Marc Mouligné Prize
For the 4th year in a row, with support from the specialized press, the Cercle de l'Homme Volant association (Circle of the Flying Man), created in memory of inventor Jean Marc Mouligné will award a prize of 1000€ for the most poetic and innovative flying machine. The jury is particularly sensitive to the human adventure that lies behind the resulting aircraft or related invention, i.e. the lonely inventor type with no money but great ideas. Free flight press agents and association members comb the exhibition stands and performances of Coupe Icare in search of the rare pearl among the oysters.
2007: By introducing their electric paramotor, the Razeebuss gang took the 2007 prize. Electric propulsion is certainly in the air but for free flying it is uncommon. Silent, lightweight and powerful enough to catch a thermal or leave a bad spot, the “Air lab”, re-baptized « Razmott » was the first successful attempt at meeting all of these criteria. For further information: www.razeebuss.com
2008: Gérard Lesieux, head of the AEF, is the type of inventor we like: passionate, rigorous, prolific … He’s the creator of the « Monotrace » - a well-designed, comfortable lightweight ultralight trike – the «Air Lift» or world’s smallest ULM, and recently the «Cameleon», an artificial finger that liberates the hands of a paramotor or ULM pilot to replace the awkward accelerator handle. He was awarded the Jean-Marc Mouligné Prize for all these inventions.
2009: Every paragliding school dreamed of this but it was Matthieu Charles who did it! Thanks to his invention, any beginner can practice or perfect his skills on un-flyable days. Basically the paragliding flight simulator functions with a virtual reality helmet. The mechanical and electronic parts allow for piloting, breaking and use of the seat harness almost like the real thing. The speed of the ventilator varies, creating a relative wind according to the flight path. Both fun and useful, this excellent idea conceived by a young inventor was still in the development stage when it caught the attention of the jury who awarded him the 2009 prize. COLLECTING CANOPIES
For the past few years we’ve been collecting paragliders to send to pilots in Cuba and Madagascar, but we’ve found that certain wings that are donated are not in the best condition. Now, thanks to the willingness and professionalism of Rip Air and Wing Shop, we are able send equipment that has undergone thorough revision if it has not been sent to the bin due to security reasons. Don’t let your canopies get mouldy in cellars; think of donating them to needy pilots in far off countries.
During the Coupe Icare, you can drop off your old equipment (wings, harnesses, helmets, emergency chutes, varios… we welcome it all), at the RipAir, Wing Shop, Kortel Design, or Nova stands. Once checked, it will be sent to free flight federations or clubs based in Cuba, Madagascar, or Morocco. Models older than 1995 will not be accepted. In any case, we, and plenty of pilots from abroad, heartily thank you for your contributions.
