Mental Preparation and Free Flight

The conference
The conference, based on requests from paragliders addressed to Arnaud and Laure, aims to answer questions pilots may have about this still little-known discipline: Who is it for? Does it concern them? What does coaching involve? What's in it for them?
The two mental trainers take us behind the scenes of their profession, explaining with passion how they work. And for once, they'll be the ones answering the pilots' questions!

The speakers
Arnaud Secher, former top-level pilot (best ranking: top 15 in the international rankings, several times top 10 in the World Cup, 1st at the 2006 pre-Worlds in Australia), international pilot, is currently coach at the Pôle France and the AURA future league. A sportsman at heart and former PE teacher, he discovered mental preparation shortly after leaving the French national team. Feeling a strong need to delve deeper into this discipline, he took the University Diploma in "mental preparation, intervention and performance support" at the University of Clermont Auvergne in 2021. The notion of coaching then became an obvious one for him. Since last year, he has chosen to devote himself entirely to paragliding and the mental preparation of athletes, whatever their level or discipline.
Laure Michaut started paragliding in 1985 and has been a tandem pilot since 2013. She also practised rifle shooting at a high level for 8 years, winning the European Championship, an experience which opened the door to a discipline she didn't even know the name of, but which was inextricably linked to the notion of progress: mental preparation. Determined to discover all its mysteries, she took the University Diploma in "mental preparation, intervention and performance support" at the University of Clermont Auvergne in 2021. A former police officer, she now works as a mental coach and trains shooters and biathletes in a "mental preparation" spirit.

Dreams of Icarus - the pioneers of motorless flight

Dreams of Icarus - the pioneers of motorless flight

Lecture
Gérard Guerrier traces the history of motorless flight in all its forms: aerostation, free flight, gliding, BASE and muscular flight, through
portraits of pioneers. He will help us to understand this long and tortuous path, from the flying monks of the Middle Ages to the paraglider-himalayans of today. He will open the debate,
in particular, on the difficulty we have in taking into account, in terms of safety, the teachings of our elders.

The speaker
As a teenager, Gérard Guerrier dreamed of becoming a fighter pilot. He became a diving engineer... and compensated for his disappointment by flying gliders and delta wings.
For ten years in a row, without ever tiring of it, he had an almost exclusive love affair with hang-gliding, a tough love that was sometimes toxic, with little and big scares. In 1985, he was one of the first to attempt a bivouac flight across the Alps.

He now devotes himself to travel and adventure literature in all its forms: journalism, novels and essays, including the highly acclaimed Eloge de la Peur (ed. Paulsen, 2019) and Du Courage (ed. Paulsen, 2021) and now Rêves d'Icare devoted to the pioneers of motorless flight.
