Lumbin : landing zone of the Coupe Icare
Situated below St Hilaire du Touvet in the Grésivaudan Valley, Lumbin is the second official site of the Coupe Icare.
Lumbin serves, first and foremost, as the landing area for the Coupe Icare !
Throughout the 3-day event, you can witness hang gliders, paragliders and the likes landing right there in the heart of the Grésivaudan Valley.
The Costume Contest for pilots serves as the highlight of this event, which is full of daring, laughter, amazement and poetry !
As for the numerous aerial shows (aerobatic hang gliding and paragliding, wingsuit, sail plane, free fall ...), they are bound to keep your eyes to the sky all afternoon. They are honestly worth the stiff neck you might suffer later!
Lumbin will also serve as a terrain for hot air balloons; they will show their colours especially mornings and evenings with awe-inspiring collective lift-offs. While in the vicinity you might gawk at the dynabubbles and other surprising dirigibles; watch them stir magically in the early morning mist.…
Model aircraft at the Coupe Icare !
At the landing zone of Lumbin, meet passionate model aircraft pilots who will impress you with their prowess through flight presentations (large model high voltage, model of a Pilatus Porter with 3m20 wingspan, helicopters, sail planes, initiation to piloting with specially adapted models…).
Saturday and Sunday from 12:30 to 16:00.
Discover what’s new this year:
At the hot air balloon field, discover the magnificent radio-controlled hot air balloons.
Saturday and Sunday at 7:00, 9:00, 18:00 and 20:00.
A superb radio-controlled motor glider, 7 kg, 5m wing span, will be presented during a flight starting from the south launch Chapelle and ending at the Lumbin landing area.
Saturday and Sunday at 11:00.
And for the first time in Lumbin, there will be a trade fair devoted to model aircraft. Meet the pros (manufacturers, distributors, retailers…) of this inspiring sport.

Fly surf: newcomer to the Coupe Icare !
Present this year in it’s earthy aspects: mountain board, buggy and jump. Demos and trials are possible all weekend long in Lumbin. Under the auspices of the FFVL, Fly surf is one of the most rapidly developing sports today.

For several years, ULM or Ultralight motorized aircraft have claimed their stake in Lumbin ; an airstrip, entirely devoted to their special needs, will be the stage of successive presentations, demonstrations and initiation flights.
In the motorized category, you might note that there are helicopter initiation flights too.

COUPE ICARE 2010
Once again this year, watercolorist and poster designer, Annick Saint Sabin, invites us into her imaginary world. After the spotted frog, the propeller–fitted hippo comes the well-endowed woman ready to send you in flight.

ICARE'S LABORATORY AT THE FUNICULAR
Icare’s Laboratory opened in the spring of 2010 at the upper Funicular station where you are invited to indulge in the mysteries of air, gravity and flight ; and to feed your dreams through projections of Coupe Icare films ; and to discover the history and function of the Funicular… Free entry.
14 IRAQI PILOTS AWAITED AT THE COUPE
They come from Mossoul in central Iraq and share the same passion as we do: to fly. Their present wish is to participate in the Coupe Icare this year.
AN AROUND-THE-WORLD ....
An around-the-world voyage ends with the Coupe Icare : On bord his Kompress helicopter, Matthieu de Quillacq launched on an amazing round the world journey whose last stage is scheduled to end in September, with a touchdown right in the middle of the Coupe Icare!
THE COUPE ICARE GOES TO CHINA
October 2010, the Coupe Icare goes to China, for the World’s Fair of Shanghai 2010. Rendezvous at the Rhône Alpes Pavilion.
SLEEP PEACEFULLY IN A DIOUX
The year, the Dioux will be reserved for pilots who want some serious bedtime peace and quiet. This special zone will be guarded every night to insure uttermost tranquillity.

Assisting the Coupe Icare.org association, there are 30 partnering associations making for over 900 volunteers who participate in the elaboration of this event! A thousand thanks to all of them for their generous time, energy, enthusiasm and smiles.

DVD : Legend of the Coupe Icare This 52 minute film by Jacques Bayol recounts the adventure of free flight with numerous unedited images and encounters with pioneers such as Australian John Dickenson, American David Barish, Frenchman Jean-Claude Bétemps and others whose desire to fly began as a wild dream.
