LES ICARES DU CINEMA
28th edition International Free Flight Film Festival
In 1983, 10 years after the launch of the "Coupe Icare" or ICARUS CUP, the FIRST INTERNATIONAL FREE FLIGHT FILM FESTIVAL hit the screens.
Today, “the ICARES of CINEMA” attracts an audience of nearly 20,000 people and has become a key venue for film and video professionals as well as free-flight enthusiasts.
The Festival brings together cinematic productions (short, medium and full-length features) dealing with air, wind and flight :
- films about aerial sports such as paragliding and hang gliding, sky diving, hot-air balloons, human-powered aircraft, sail planes, bungy jumping, base jumping, kites, boomerangs, paramotors and ultralight motorized gliders, aerobatics, etc.
- films on birds or related species
- in other words any film related to the themes of air, wind and flight.
Every year the Festival receives from 60 to 80 amateur and professional productions from all over the world.
A selection of 25 to 30 films is then submitted to the festival jury, composed of film and video professionals (programme producers, film directors, etc.) and free flight specialists.
MORNINGS « OFF »
« Mornings OFF » presents films that should not be overlooked neither by pilots nor the general public due to a true life experience well recounted, or to an interesting slant on free flight, or simply for precious footage.
The two sessions occur : Friday morning and Saturday morning.
An Icare for « Mornings OFF is decerned by the OFF-going public.
TIMETABLE OF PROJECTIONS
- Official sessions: Thursday and Friday at 7:30 pm.
- Gala evening: Saturday at 6:30 pm - Announcement of the winners and prize-giving ceremony followed by a projection of the prized films. Second viewing of prized films at 10:00 pm
During the day, there are non-stop projections of selected films.
All projections will be held under the Festival marquee set up at the South Launch.
JOIN THE FESTIVAL IN GRENOBLE, IN NOVEMBRE
The Festival will give you a date in Novembre for a special evening in Grenoble, during the Festival for Mountain Films (Rencontres du Cinéma de Montagne).

ICARE'S LABORATORY AT THE FUNICULAR
Icare’s Laboratory opened in the spring of 2010 at the upper Funicular station where you are invited to indulge in the mysteries of air, gravity and flight ; and to feed your dreams through projections of Coupe Icare films ; and to discover the history and function of the Funicular… Free entry.
14 IRAQI PILOTS AWAITED AT THE COUPE
They come from Mossoul in central Iraq and share the same passion as we do: to fly. Their present wish is to participate in the Coupe Icare this year.
AN AROUND-THE-WORLD ....
An around-the-world voyage ends with the Coupe Icare : On bord his Kompress helicopter, Matthieu de Quillacq launched on an amazing round the world journey whose last stage is scheduled to end in September, with a touchdown right in the middle of the Coupe Icare!
THE COUPE ICARE GOES TO CHINA
October 2010, the Coupe Icare goes to China, for the World’s Fair of Shanghai 2010. Rendezvous at the Rhône Alpes Pavilion.
SLEEP PEACEFULLY IN A DIOUX
The year, the Dioux will be reserved for pilots who want some serious bedtime peace and quiet. This special zone will be guarded every night to insure uttermost tranquillity.
900 VOLUNTEERS FOR THE COUPE ICARE !
900 volunteers for the Coupe Icare !
Assisting the Coupe Icare.org association, there are 30 partnering associations making for over 900 volunteers who participate in the elaboration of this event! A thousand thanks to all of them for their generous time, energy, enthusiasm and smiles.

DVD : The Coupe Icare 2009 Relive the best, most thrilling moments of the 2009 edition of the Coupe Icare through this DVD that includes a bonus of the most memorable if not outrageous participating costumes between 1987 - 2000 and 2002 - 2009. Price: 15 euros (+2 euros postage fee).
DVD : Legend of the Coupe Icare This 52 minute film by Jacques Bayol recounts the adventure of free flight with numerous unedited images and encounters with pioneers such as Australian John Dickenson, American David Barish, Frenchman Jean-Claude Bétemps and others whose desire to fly began as a wild dream. Price: 15 euros (+2 euros postage fee).
